You must have an 8-inch or larger hoop to stitch the mug mat. The coaster can be stitched in a 5 x 7-inch hoop.

To make a mug mat, trivet, etc - Sandwich batting—or Fusible Fleece 2 from the Warm Company—between the wrong sides of your top and backing fabrics and hoop. The first and last stitches made in the course of the stitch-out create an outline, through all layers, as a cutting guide for the outside edge of the mat.
